Season Format

Season Length:  Our 2024 season begins on January 8, 2024 and runs through March 31, 2024.

Game Play:  Our season allows for 9-10 weeks of game play (approximately one game per week), depending on how playoffs are handled.  Each Division (grade level) is assigned a set of game slots per week, and they are scheduled in a round robin fashion throughout the 9-10 weeks of play.  Some divisions have a BYE week.

Playoffs: Each division is typically allotted 2 weeks for playoffs, depending on the playoff format.  Playoffs are single-elimination. Brackets will be posted on the NBL website close to the end of the regular playing season and prior to playoff games.

Schedules: Exact schedules are posted in December and are available on the SCHEDULES tab of the NBL website as well as on your team's TeamSnap page.

Standings: Each week during the season, coaches submit game scores to their Division Scheduler so team standings can be updated on the NBL website.

League & Referee Fees

League Fees are $500 per team and cover facility rental and insurance costs for up to 15 players.  If your team is accepted, you will receive an online registration link early in October via email from the league.  Payment must be submitted by the payment deadline of October 15 to secure your spot.

Referee Fees are B4-B6 $30, B7-B8 $40, G4 $20, G5-G7 $30 and G8 $40 from each team given to the officials prior to the start of each regular season game and each playoff game. It is anticipated that each game will be officiated by one IHSA ref and one referee-in-training.

**Boys 8th grade, Boys 7th grade and Girls 8th grade teams each pay $40 per game for two IHSA-certified officials.

Teams and officials (and not the NBL) are responsible for all aspects of the financial transaction.
